This offering by the ever fabulous Pamela Clare will haunt you. I literally couldn't put it down, and read far past bed time in order to finish the story. I had to find out how it ended! I loved the way she introduces us-the reader-to our characters Sophie and Hunt, giving us a look at them at their most vulnerable, each of them at an apex of change...and then re-introduces them in a fascinating and very unique tale of second chances.

The lost girl Sophie tries to help and then find when she bolts is complicated by many shadowy figures intent on their own agenda, some of which places our heroine in extreme danger and then calls into question Sophie's credibility and integrity. Although not the safest route, I found myself rooting for Sophie and applauding her decisions and sacrifice. Hunt's wounds are deep and slowly revealed through a series of painful revelations, leaving you turning the pages to see what's next. I loved the way characters from throughout this series were intertwined in the story line, each adding intrigue and depth. I knew the ending would have to be happily ever after, but I just didn't know how in the world these two could accomplish that seemingly insurmountable feat. This is the first time I read this author and was a bit skeptical as I tend to read more "erotic" romances than conventional romances. And conventional is what this book looked like. But I was gratefully surprised!

The story was exciting, pulse pounding, and tearful at times, and then it was steamy and sexy as well. It was a well rounded romance that went just past the line of a conventional romance or sex and stayed away from an all out graphic erotic romance. The author's characters were fabulous and drew you into the world that Sophie, Hunt, and Megan made. At times I was wondering if Sophie was going to find out the clues needed to make everything right, and the ending was amazing! Top marks for the author bringing in the I-Team family and their prior stories and those yet to come, as I have now gone back and ordered the previous books to read.

If you want to read a really good book, that wont bore you with frivolous details just to make it longer, but draws you in with real emotions, and situations, and top it off with an exceptionally sexy alpha male that heats up the sheets with his woman wow!

This author is now on my must read list and I will be spending time reading the other books in the I-Team series. I've been hooked! You will be too when you read this series.
This is where is started people, the bromance between Julian Darcangelo and Marc Hunter, enemies on different sides of the law. I affectionately like to call them Marc-Angelo… Humm I suppose I should start at the beginning…

Marc Hunter was the most sought after boy in high school who went on to service his country and then became a DEA officer.. Now he is serving a 10 year prison sentence for murder.

Sophie Alton got one night with that boy in high school that she’s never forgotten. Sophie went on to become a journalist for one of Denver’s top Newspaper. Her latest story has to do with a woman she has been following she since gave birth shackled in prison. (note that subject – women giving birth in prison being chained to the bed was something the author herself investigated when she was a journalist) . When Sophie hears the woman escaped with her baby during a scheduled visit she is shocked and scared for her.

When Marc finds out his sister is on the run with her baby he knows her life is in danger and he plans an escape to find her before the bad people after her do. After luring Sophie to the prison in the disguise of giving an interview he instead takes her hostage and escapes.

From here on its non stop action as Hunter races to find his sister with both law enforcement and the bad guys on his tale.. One of the men is a exFBI agent now with DPD Julian Darcangelo who is the husband of Sophie’s friend and co-worker (Tessa/Julian from Hard Evidence).

I absolutely loved this story. Certainly doesn’t start out as your typical romance with Marc being more of a anti-hero but its not long before you know the whole story and realize he is a great man that would do anything to protect his family and those he loves. He and Sophie defiantly have their share of crap to get through to get to their HEA but ohh the ride was so worth it.
While doing an investigative piece on young women having babies in prison, Sophie gets really close to Megan. A young woman who will be seeing her baby for the first time since giving birth (in unappealing conditions). At the half-way house to interview Megan, Sophie is met with police resistance and a runaway/kidnapper (Megan). As disappointment and concern for Megan plagues Sophie, she gets a call advising her to interview Megan's brother (who is also in prison). While questioning him things go south. Megan is taken by Marc Hunter as a hostage where she almost dies of hypothermia. After saving her life, Marc leaves her stranded and calls in help for her. Now, Sophie is torn between doing everything she can to help catch the bastard that held her hostage or protecting her 19 yr. old first love - the same man. This got really intense and soon Sophie's life is on the line and Marc is the only one who can save/help her and his sister.
